In 1987, Nolan Ryan went 8-16 despite leading the league in ERA at 2.76. If that isn't lack of run support I don't know what is!

Incidentally, Walter Johnson is -53 games over the course of his career (assuming average run support). Blyleven was -26 games for his career. Nolan Ryan was only -12 for his career, but was -7 alone...
